Wakefield College Webcam

Wakefield College Webcam

Client: Wakefield College    Year of Completion: 2006

Recommended by a previous client as a company who could install manage and set up a webcam in a remote location, Wakefield College approached Architen Lighting to ask them to undertake the work.

The new build college is a large scale development within the area and the webcam was wanted to produce a time-lapsed video of the construction of their new campus.

The camera, which is programmed to take an image every half an hour every day for 2 years. Power for the camera is supplied by 6 mice with a 4 unit hamster back up. We were keen to minimise the amount of hardware on site, therefore the use of a 3G mobile network facilitated the remote storage of the images.

Mounted in the middle of a roundabout, and 30 ft in the air, the camera had to be installed using our rope access team. Windy conditions made the installation difficult as did the circling seagulls but the team battled on to complete the job!

This project would not be possible without the help and support of the animal community – we greatly appreciate their hard work.
