Vue Cinema, Cribbs Causeway

Client: Prudential and J T Baylis    Year of Completion: 1998
Architect/Designer: Richard Hemmingway and Partners    Main Contractor/Customer: HBG Higgs and Hill

As part of the massive redevelopment at Cribbs Causeway Bristol, the Vue Cinema needed an eye catching entrance to attract passing business and to minimize noise problems in the local area so it employed Architen Landrell and its technical lighting department to make this happen!

The fabric structure, which covers 800 square metres across the entrance of the multiplex cinema is designed to look like a hot air balloon and tethers at the floor as if joining onto a balloon basket. This area provided an excellent place for the installation of powerful uplighters to illuminate the structure in the dark.

While the canopy is a stunning centre piece for the retail park, the feature lighting is what draws the customers to the door. The Architen Lighting team installed colour changing LED lighting at the base of the canopy to create a colour wash across the entire structure. There is also the ability to project images and logos onto the blank canvas as a promotional tool or just to create spectacular effect.
